Welcome to you all from Jean and Mike Wooller to our French holidays web page.
We purchased Ferme Belle Vue in 2004 after discovering southern Aveyron with its majestic scenery and unspoilt rural charm. This all but forgotten (by British tourists) Department boasts nine of the most beautiful villages in France as well as numerous historic Chateaux and breathtaking scenery.
After many family holidays all over France we found quite by accident this little corner of Aveyron and instantly fell in love with the area, the local people and their traditions. After many months searching for our ideal property, we chanced upon Ferme Belle Vue tucked away in a small hamlet in the Grands Causses National Park.
The property was in need of major renovation albeit the size and possibilities lent itself to help us fulfil our dream to live in Southern France, offering ‘green’ holidays in a tranquil location to, primarily, friends and like minded people, some of whom now return year after year.
To this end we spent the next six years renovating the property to create a family home with two self contained gîtes and three en-suite letting rooms within the farmhouse. We now offer organized themed holidays for small groups, such as Nordic walkers, ramblers, gym members, school staff etc, in the spring and autumn months when the weather is cooler and cater more for family holidays in the hotter summer months.
In the spring and autumn months we organize short breaks to go walking, kayaking or trekking and the slower paced, discovering Aveyron, including some of the most beautiful villages, historic towns and natural wonders such as the cirque at Navacelles. During the summer months our visitors tend to organize their own daily activities, but we are always on hand to help plan a suitable itinerary or suggest ideas if required.
In July and August every other Thursday evening in Saint Affrique Park there are organised food evenings where local food producers prepare and sell their produce as a meal at very reasonable charges, they always have a local band or group playing; there is a wonderful ambience amongst the crowd, especially as they are encouraged to supply their own wine and beer to drink!
The summer months are aimed more towards ‘green’ holidays, with guaranteed sunshine and plenty to do and see both near and far for families and groups alike. For those visiting us and the region using their own transport we suggest packing river fishing equipment, inflatable dinghies and shoes you can wear in the water, as well as plenty of suntan lotion!
Really popular activities are swimming, trout fishing and catching local crayfish in the river at the bottom of our hamlet*, also the Plan d’Eau, a man made swimming lake, is only five minutes drive away, which is ideal for picnics, barbecues and safe swimming. Further afield is Lake Salagou another man made lake which is ideal for dingy sailing and wind surfing as well as cycling or walking around the lake using the purpose built pathways.
* (A short term fishing licence is required but can be obtained in advance if requested for a nominal sum.)
We have become renowned for preparing varied and interesting menus to a high standard with ample sized portions, our vegetarian options are never dull or boring. We use locally sourced produce whenever possible, for carnivores and vegetarians alike. A sample of our daily evening meal menus can be viewed on the food pages by clicking on the word ‘food’ in the header banner.
In 2010 we started holding barbecue evenings on Saturdays, giving all our guests the opportunity to meet each other and mingle in a friendly atmosphere with good food and local wines. For residents on a full board basis the evening is all inclusive whilst self catering, bed & breakfast and camping visitors have the option to purchase tickets from Jean or Mike in advance.
Thank you for your interest and we hope to see you soon.
